Memorial Day

I stare into the dark granite
beyond the names
and into the faces
of a thousand men I knew
or should have known.
Beside me
a nappy headed child
gazes too
looking at father
or grandfather
or uncle
her only proof that he lived.
She touches the name.

And,
a woman
reaches into the wall
touches the face
of the man she loved
who fathered her child
but left
before she really knew him.
She touches the name.
And,
the old man
who holds an old woman
who touches the name
tracing her fingers
along the etching
along the letters
as if counting fingers
and toes
of the man
who was once her baby.

Here
along this wall
brother and sister
father and friend
share the same.
They too
look beyond the granite
and into the faces...

they too
reach in and touch
the men reaching out to them
and saying "Good-bye"
at last.

Help

I am so new at this I have no idea how I got to this point. If you are a blogger with lots of experience please help me out. I want to add some other blogs to this site, ones I like to read and ones I actually participate in.. how the heck do I do that?
